Meditation to Relieve Stress– Guided Meditation Event in West Virginia

posted in: Meditation

The Shepherd University Student Center will host the “Mindfulness Summit for Social Change and Education” from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, April18th in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. This day-long class will focus on simple practices and meditation to relieve stress as well as explaining the importance of relaxation.

Led by Mary Ann Allen, a certified meditation instructor, the Summit will help participants examine stressors in their lives and reduce their negative influence. “People want to make it too hard,” says Allen; but there are many simple ways to start relieving stress. Allen suggests starting with a few moments of quiet deep breathing. Even this simple act can start to relieve stress and reduce anxiety.  As people reduce their stress loads, their lives will quickly become more peaceful and calm.

Most people remain uneducated about the importance of relaxation.  “People are working so hard to afford…family necessities that they don’t have downtime to unwind,” says event coordinator Jan Hummer. This event is designed to help people change their lives individually and eventually enact the social changes associated with a more tranquil populace.
